Daily Los Angeles and some sketches.

My sister, on occasion, texts me descriptions of interesting characters she encounters in Los Angeles where she lives.

Whenever she sends me a description, I'm going to draw them. A few months ago, she told me Morgan Freeman had stopped to eat where she works. He was wearing flanel, a baseball cap and ate ribs. And that's all she told me.

Thus:
enjoying ribs = saucy fingers/face
this is how I saw him in my head. hahaha, so precious!

I'd posted these on my tumblr, but I'm working on some ideas for a comic with my sister.
And I've been listening to a lot of Welcome to Night Vale...

1st favorite food wrapped around 3rd favorite food

our assignment was to take a favorite show pretend (God forbid) that it's been cancelled and made into an animated show. we had to take at least 4 characters and make them animatable. I got a little carried away. Narrowing down such an awesome cast to just 4?! nearly impossible.

my professor said it looked like Jean Ralphio and Tom were not just friends. LOL. they're just swag kings, professor. game recognizes game.

I always prefer sketches to clean lines :/

weekly art challenge
limited palettes are always cool. color is an elusive beast I know not how to tame.

I could really go for some Jurassic Park, but that's probably because my sister's been visiting. And if you know nothing else of her likes, know that is her favorite movie ever. Did you know it came out 20 years ago next year? 1993! 1993! I saw that damn movie in the theater as a kid.

I'm dating myself. haha.

warmup

warmup for today.

for years we haven't had thanksgiving on the day of. it's just another day, the only celebration is the parade. my mom used to always have to work, so we'd have it the day after.
but anymore it's just a tradition to invite everyone unrelated to us and have a shindig.

therefore tomorrow is our thanksgiving. my main concern is that I don't want to cut my feet off by the end of the day. and that a particular person attends because I know me. and if they aren't there, then I'll have a cloud over my head all day.

anyhow. I hope your Thanksgiving was great and that you ate way too much and were genuinely grateful that you had that opportunity. even if you didn't get to eat a bunch of warm homemade food, remember this: pizza is always there.

Some sketches from my sketchbook.

I will probably elaborate on a few of them. Ryan Gosling's jacket....mmmm.
I'm going to participate in this 30 day character design thing my roommate told me about.  Just...3 days late.

so here's a warmup!

I bow down to women who wear heels consistently. I don't even think I own a pair. I have some cowboy boots that I got recently. I can see the merit in the way they make you walk...

fell a little behind on daily posts, midterms snuck up on me and I've been struggling with my script writing class. I'm not a writer! it is in an uphill climb.

I've been making my friend a playlist every month and sending it to him via snail mail. I'm a little behind for October, but I'll be sending it tomorrow. here's the cover. and excuse to play with my copics.

I've been sketching a lot, I swear. I just haven't been able to post it because I have to scan everything and my scanner is an abomination.

So here's something I did for Halloween that I posted on my tumblr. It started out as a pencil sketch.

I won't post much fanart here, but I rather liked giving the Doctor and Rose costumes of 2 other characters I adore. Plus it's Doctor Who.

I like to draw Ten when I don't know what else to draw.

warmup sketch for the evening. I accidentally opened a document this size so I just went with it.

Another shape warmup before I start inking. I think I just wanted to draw a pit viper. With arms. Decorated with medals.

benedict's face.

I spent a lot of yesterday trying to understand Benedict Cumberbatch's unique facial happenings. Here's a handful of quick drawings.

He has so many angles, and his lips are so interesting. They're like triangles, there's such a dip in the middle. Have you ever watched them as he speaks? The first time I watched Sherlock, I was, at first, cripplingly dazzled by the melted-butter quality of his voice. But after that initial introduction, it was like my eyes were racing my brain to understand his face and how is lips moved.

Pretty stoked to hear his voice come out of Smaug.

elemental

I follow a tumblr called Weekly Art Challenges, and the last one was to create a character based on an element from the periodic table.

I picked Promethium, and used this description (from here) for inspiration:

The discoverers proposed the name “prometheum” (the spelling was subsequently changed), derived from Prometheus, the Titan in Greek mythology who stole fire from Mount Olympus and brought it down to humans, to symbolize “both the daring and the possible misuse of mankind’s intellect.”

first warmup!

I really love the idea of taking a random squiggle and making something more of it. So that's how I am warming myself up today:

Onward.
